As I had mentioned in my previous post, this was not my first attempt at portraying Bo Peep. Growing up, Bo was always one of my favorite characters because of her effortless femininity. So in 2014 when my boyfriend (at the time) invited me to my very first Mickey's Halloween Party, I knew that she was the only choice. Unfortunately for me however, Bo Peep was not a popular costume and there certainly was nothing even remotely screen accurate on the market. So I, with my very little sewing skills, was forced to make one of my own. Amazingly enough, I still have pictures of the process.
Because I had very limited skills, I knew I had to start with some pretty solid base pieces and then sort of Frankenstein this costume together. For the top, I started with a Glinda the Good Witch costume that I had found online with a similar bodice as Bo (pictured right). I knew this would be a good choice as it had a color that was pretty accurate to Bo's costume, as well as the puff sleeves. I detatched the bodice from the skirt, took out the center panel, and replaced it with a blue panel with mock laces.
After then sewing ruffles for the bloomers, and hand dying them, I spray painted a sheep's crook, and was lucky enough to find a pink and white bonnet online. Overall, I'm still pretty impressed with the outcome. This was my first time making a complete costume, and I think it turned out pretty darn cute!
BONUS: My boyfriend at the time made his own Woody costume and we looked super adorable together
Pinup Parade at the Park 2016
My second attempt at Bo was a Disneybound for the Pinup Parade at the Park in Fall 2016. This was by far the most hastily thrown together out of all of my Bo Peep inspired outfits. I wasn't planning to attend the Pinup Parade and only found out the day before that I would be able to, so I grabbed whatever Pinup Girl Clothing articles I could find in my closet and planned my outfit around it. I actually ended up reusing my skirt from the Halloween party, without the hoop underneath. I combined this with my PUG pink top, TUK shoes, a blue ribbon around my waist, and a pink and blue ribbon in my hair. For this outfit, the only element that I made myself were the ruffled socks that I dyed blue to represent Bo's bloomers.
